Try A Chapter #1
I just finished Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel and I am now torn as to what to read next. So, I have seen this "method" utilized on BookTube and I thought it might help me choose. So here goes.
1. The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis From what I understand, this is book set in the 1980s and takes place at a college and these friends have no idea what they want out of life. This is supposed to be darkly humorous and feature some sexually diverse characters. This isn't a book that I would typically reach for but I stumbled onto it on Goodreads and bought it at the local used bookstore. I am excited to see what this is all about!
2. The Secret History by Donna Tartt I have heard this book being hyped so much and when I found it at Goodwill for $0.99...I had absolutely no reason not to get it.
This is pitched as a psychological thriller of sorts. A group of misfit college kids (I'm sensing a trend?) are making an attempt to live rebelliously. What ends up happening, apparently, pushes the boundaries and things start to go awry. I am certain that I'm going to love this!
3. Naked Lunch by William S Burroughs
Naked lunch is narrated by "an Ivy League drug addict" and is the story of drugs, psych hospital stays, and a road trip. Set in the 1950s, this book has created a stir from its first publication. I have been very interested in Beat Writers recently and having read Burroughs' "Junky" , I thought I would explore some of his other works.
4. Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde This is a YA contemporary following 3 friends at a convention. The diversity in this book is outrageous! There's bisexual rep, Autism spectrum disorder rep, anxiety rep, diverse ethnicities. Its just a great balance! This is pitched as a fun contemporary with geeky elements which Im all about. I dont find myself gravitating toward Contemporary books but this seems like a fun quick read!
5. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
This needs no introduction. The first book in The Mortal Instruments series! I am very very late to this party but I I've been seeing so much hype about her new Dark Artifices series and it just looks so good, but I have never read any of Cassandra Clare's books before. *insert shocked face here 😲*
So what better place to start than the beginning ....I am going to attempt to read these In the order that I have been told to read them....so let's see what this Shadowhunter thing is about, shall we??
So I am going to read the first chapter of these books and try to figure out what to read next!!
