(Dissappointing) August 2018 Wrap-Up

I had a shitty reading month in August. I managed to get through 3 books.  First I read: This is a non-fiction about a man's search for information on his biological parents, and stumbles into proof that his father was the notorious Zodiac Killer from Northern California who operated in the 1960's and 1970's.  (4/5 Stars)✮✮✮✮ Next I read: I won this book in a giveaway on Twitter from the author. It is a fast paced fiction in which a man who suffers from a psychotic break, due to the deaths of his wife and daughter, finds himself driving a car that he has no memory of getting into. And worse, there's a girl in the car that he apparently kidnapped, and he has no memory of that either. The girl that's with him starts to help him piece together bits of events that have led up to their current situation. Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Heartless by Marissa Meyer is a fantasy standalone novel. It is essentially a back story as to how The Red Queen became The Red Queen and how she became so any/aggressive. I had high hopes for this book, as my most anticipated book of 2016. However, it really fell flat for me, and I found it hard to get through . Summary: Cath wants to open a bakery, but her parents want her to marry The King of Hearts. During all of the parties, and meetings with the King, Cath falls in love with the King's Joker, "Jest". Despite the unwillingness of her parents, or anyone else, Cath is determined to leave Hearts and begin a new life and open her bakery and live happily ever after with Jest. But that would be too easy...Through a series of events, Cath becomes bitter and angry and revengeful....And...The Queen of Hearts. The story was slow moving and I found some parts unnecessary. All in all is was a decent whimsical story with a not-so-happy ending. That's the thing I most liked...

Born To Love, Cursed To Feel by Samantha King is a debut poetry collection about Love and everything that comes along with it. She writes about being cheated on, left, being in toxic relationships. ..etc. She does touch on the positives of being in a relationship as well. Poetry has always been a love of mine. I have recently just started to dive into some current poets, and I am loving it. Samantha King's writing is very relatable.
