Memorable Recent Reads (July)
I haven't posted in a while, and I apologize. Sometimes life can cause my train of thought to de-rail. Anywho...back on track. Today is August 5, 2018 and since I last posted, I read a total of 11 physical books and listened to 2 audio books.
I am going to discuss the books that have stuck with me. These are either 4 or 5 star reads.
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
This book caught my attention while watching BookTube. I had seen so many people showing love for this book, and I finally decided to buy it. I was completely blown away! I read this in a course of 2 days (work cuts into my reading time..ugh..) and I couldn't put it down. I would read it while cooking dinner and doing laundry,,,etc. LOL
This is a collection of short stories about women who have faced some adversity or have survived abusive relationships or sexual assault or are all around just bad ass bitches. Some of these stories were very hard to read because I can identify with the circumstances that these women faced. This is my first Roxane Gay book but it certainly will NOT be my last.

The Orphan's Tale by Pam Jenoff
Historical Fiction at its finest! I was drawn right into this story from page one. It is a Dual Perspective novel set in WWII era Europe. You're following a German travelling circus and 2 very different women who become friends despite their differences. This is a tale of friendship and survival and how the most of unlikely people can become family. As the author unfolded the story, I could actually feel the anxiety and the joy and the hurt and the fear that the main characters were feeling. She writes in a way that creates such vivid pictures, it's as if you're really there. I feel that this is beautifully written and important to read. Jenoff combines fiction with an accurate historical event, and executes it perfectly!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
THIS BOOK! THIS BOOK! OMG....
A novel that I saw so much hype about, and if you don't know, I am very skeptical about "Hyped Book," but, I saw it for a decent price and I picked it up.
I FLEW through this book in 24 hrs and I had to remind myself several times that this was a piece of fiction and that Evelyn Hugo wasn't a real person. (IT'S THAT DAMN GOOD!)
It is the story of Old Hollywood Glamour, Evelyn Hugo who was quite the hot tamale in the movie industry during the 40's 50's 60's and 70s.
Now 79 years old, Evelyn requests an unknown journalist to write her memoir. She says she will not tell anyone else, so if the journalist refuses, Evelyn's life story will die with Evelyn.
The journalist agrees, but is confused as to why Evelyn chose her.
Evelyn goes on to tell the story of how she ended up in the movies and how she managed to marry seven times. Also finally divulging who the love of her live really was. Throughout the story, you find out secrets, and scandals, and various "behind the scene" tidbits of Evelyn's Hollywood lifestyle.
This book will be in my Top 3 books that I read in 2018! It's absolutely phenomenal!
