Wrapping Up May

I only managed to read 4 books this month. not my best reading month, but I am happy with what I read.

The first book I read, was another Patti Smith book.

M Train is written as a memoir, and follows Patti after her husband died. It talks about her travels, and her feelings. It is an honest and open account of how she lives life while being alone. I loved it.

Next, I read a book that I have had on my radar as well as one that I have had on my TBR shelf for more than a month. I'm so happy that I finally picked it up.

Smoke Gets In You Eyes. (And Other Lessons From The Crematory) by Caitlin Doughty
This is a memoir-ish book about Caitlin Doughty and her experience working in the crematory of a local funeral home after graduating Funeral Science school. There are gruesome details about corpses and info about how cremation happens as well as how the funeral home transports bodies when people die at home.
But, beyond the morbid facts, there are bits of wisdom, and life experience. I flagged quite a few pages. I loved this book, and I look forward to picking up her other book.

The third book I read was again, another Patti Smith book. This time its a collection of poetry.

Auguries of Innocence by Patti Smith is a poetry collection of raw and honest emotion. There aren't words to describe her poetry. Just read it. :)

And the last book I read is, SURPRISE SURPRISE, another Patti Smith!

The Coral Sea is a memoir/poetry collection talking about her friend and former lover, Robert Mapplethorpe and his battle with addiction, and AIDS. She talks about his death and how it affected her, She showcases some of his photography as well.
