Patti Smith.....where do I begin?  I stumbled upon a copy of Just Kids  last year in a Goodwill. I had seen reviews for it on BookTube and decided to give it a go. I absolutely  loved it! It is a piece that has stayed with me since I finished it and I think of it almost daily. The memoir documents Patti's relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. He was a photographer and Patti and he were inseparable. The way they were together was very familiar of my own relationship with the love of my life. I think that's why I love it so much.  It chronicles their lives living together in the Hotel Chelsea, her friendship with the Beat Writers...etc. All the way up to the death of Robert to AIDS, and .how she felt afterward. I ADORED this book and will definitely be re-reading it soon.  I just recently read M Train  by Patti Smith. This book follows Patti after the death of her husband, Fred. It documents her travels and photography and living in New Jersey durin

4/5 stars Beautifully done, would have been 5 stars if not for the insta-love.  DNF I was hoping for something more from this. It is an important topic, but the writing was awful.  4/5 stars Second book in the Themis Files series. I love this series so much. Science Fiction done wonderfully!  4/5 stars Second in a trilogy. I loved this. This story reminds me of "Home". Acceptance, and risking everything for an opportunity at a better life.  3/5 stars I liked that this was so raw, but there was so much sex and sexual references, and vulgar language. It was almost sickening to read at times. I did find his honesty and his strength throughout his childhood commendable.  4/5 stars Poetry collection about an HIV positive African American gay man. He writes beautifully and honestly and it is both moving and heartbreaking.  3/5 stars I loved the majority of this book. It is YA and follows a girl who wants to be a mortician and becomes obsessed with

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyami (Book Review) *short and sweet*

This story....I wasn't expecting much when I first picked it up because, it was hyped so much. But the premise just drew me in. This is a West African fantasy novel based on African folklore. It is YA, but it is very fast paced and gripping. We follow a brother and sister who live in a poor area of a village. While Zelie is in the richer area, hoping to sell fish for money, she collides with the Royal Princess. Zelie helps the Princess escape the Royal Guard's clutches and our story begins there.  This has family dynamics, betrayal, and adventure. There is an element of insta-love which I could have done without, but, all in all I enjoyed it and will be continuing on with the series.  I have never read a fantasy based on African culture, and I absolutely loved it.  I gave this 4/5 stars on Goodreads.
