Weekend Reads

Image
I am currently working my way through 2 books going into the weekend. Waking Gods  Book 2  of the Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel.  This is the second book of a science fiction series where Humans have discovered a giant Alien Robot that they have determined to be a weapon of some sort for a potential alien invasion.  This second book picks up 10 years later after the ending in book 1. A large robot has appeared in the middle of a London park, and they must now determine why this new robot has come, and what to do if it should be deemed dangerous.  I love this series and I will definitely be picking up the third book in this series. I'm about 60% finished with this book as I'm typing this, so I should be able to finish it this weekend.  The other book, I have just started.  I Stop Somewhere  by T.E. Carter I am only about 10 pages or so into this book, but from what I understand, this is a darker YA contemporary that deal...

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (Book Review)

Image
A story of Faeries, betrayel, self-discovery...its a beautifully written first book in a new YA Fantasy series by Holly Black. No one does YA Dark Fairy Tales quite like Holly Black. This tells the story of Jude. She and her twin sister Taryn have been taken back to Faerieland by Madoc, the man who murdered their mother. The girls are then raised in Faerie alongside Madoc's son Oak. Madoc and his wife live in Faerie and Madoc is in service to the High King of Elfhame. The High King is on the verge of passing the crown to one of his sons when all sorts of events begin to happen, secrets are revealed and loyalties are tested. This story has a little of everything. Magic, betrayal, mystery...etc. I gave this a 4/5 stars and will continue with the series.

Rest In Peace Stephen Hawking 😞

I am writing this with a heavy heart. The physics community has taken a huge loss. Professor Stephen Hawking died this morning at age 76. He is a personal hero and inspiration. He will be greatly missed. Fly among the cosmos sir. 1942-3018

ARC of The Wolf by Leo Carew

Image
I received and ARC of The Wolf  by Leo Carew for an honest review. This is the first book in an adult epic fantasy series with some "Game of Thrones" vibes. There are "Northerners" and "Southerners" and a centuries-old war between the two. This is political and fantastical, and I can't wait to read it.  Releases on April 18, 2018

Winter: A Time For Classics

Image
I always feel like the Winter is the best times to read classics. They bring a warmth and an idea of simpler times. I love getting lost in classics and escape from the hustle and chaos of modern life. I like "textbook" classics as well as "modern" classics and I plan to read an assortment of each throughout the Winter months. The classics that I have read so far are: A Christmas Carol  by Charles Dickens This book is on a lot of people's TBR during the Christmas season. It is the timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. A stingy and selfish man who does not care for Christmas. His dead business partner, Jacob Marley, visits him in spirit form and warns Ebenezer to change his ways, for Marley is now a prisoner in the afterlife. He carries around chains (the burdens of his selfish ways during his life). He warns Scrooge that he will be visited by 3 spirits in the near future. The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and The Ghost of Christmas...
